The Telegraph reports that The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) paid out an average of $1.87m to its 323 'code staff' for their work in 2010.Cash
This compares to the $1.7m paid on average to HSBC's 231 code staff, and the $3.9m average paid to the equivalent staff over at Barclays.
And Ellen Alemany, who runs RBS's US Citizen's unit, was the highest-paid bank executive not on the board in 2010. She made some $9.6m, slightly ahead of Global Banking & Markets CEO John Hourican, who bagged $9.5m in total compensation.
Finally, The Financial Times reports that ING has come under fire for the $1.76m its CEO, Jan Hommen, made in 2010. The newspaper quotes Dutch Labour politican Ronald Plasterk, who said that paying large bonuses while the firm remained indebted to the taxpayers was an 'idiotic situation'.
